White Fillings

White Fillings are used exclusively as our filling of choice at Smile Artistry.

White Fillings come in a number of forms and generations, but the most aesthetic Filling currently available with unique high strength is Empress Direct (formerly known as FourSeasons).

Smile Artistry uses white fillings exclusively and has not placed Amalgam silver Fillings for over 15 years now.

When a White Filling is not Appropriate:
In circumstances when a tooth has suffered severe decay, leaving the tooth very fragile, a white filling may be be able to return the tooth to strength from the decay.  In these cases, a Porcelain Crown or Onlay may be recommended to increase the strength of the tooth against breaking and future decay.

White Fillings are extremely cosmetic when used in appropriate circumstances.

The ProcessFollowing your Dental Checkup you will be presented with a Dental Treatment Plan which will indicate any white fillings you require.  Dental Appointments will be scheduled.  During your White Filling Appointment the sequence of the Appointment will be: Local Anaesthetic, Removal of old Filling, decay and cracks, placement of the new White Filling, adjustment of your bite and polishing of the new White Filling.

Indicative Cost of White Filling: $ 180 to $ 495.

Controversy
To treat a patient's decay early or late is a controversy in Dentistry.  It is our philsophy to tailor a recommendation dependant on the patient's presenting condition, history and oral health/hygiene.  Should a patient present with multiple areas of decay, a history of many fillings with re-occuring decay, and has poor oral hygiene and a poor dental diet, then a more aggressive approach is indicated.  Should a patient present with minimal areas of decay, no history of previous decay, a good diet and good oral hygiene, then a more cautious approach may be taken to wait and watch the area of decay(which has not breached the outer surface of the tooth) and provide increased efforts to heal the tooth.
