Gum Disease is a increasingly concerning disease which effects the population.  Gum Disease(Gingivitis, Periodontitis) is the gums response to plaque and bacteria leading to gum inflammation and bone loss.  It is the major cause of tooth loss in the elderly.

The Aim of a Gum Disease Management Program
Through early diagnosis of Gum Disease, the process can be halted and prevented from worsening.  The best treatment of Gum Disease is prevention of it worsening.

Gum Disease is managed through invasive and non-invasive cleaning of the teeth and gums to reduce levels of tartar and plaque and allow the gums to protect the teeth in their healthy state.

Your Gum Disease Management Program
Your Gum Disease Pgrogram will be managed by a member of the Dental Hygiene Team.  Our Dental Hygienists will first of all assess your presenting condition, making note of the Signs of Gum Disease.  Following this assessment, the Dental Hygienist will gvie you a Gum Disease Classification and treat your condition accordingly.  This will involve Oral Hygiene Instruction and then detailed cleaning of your teeth and gums.  These Appointments will be tailored to suit your needs and local anaesthetics will be used if your teeth are sensitive or gums are uncomfortable during the cleaning.

The Gum Disease Management Results and Recommendations
Gum Disease is not a necessary part of life, and improvements in technology allow us to closely monitor your condition and change our response.  For patients with moderate or significant levels of gum disease, cleaning will often be required on a 3-monthly basis, whereas for most patients, cleaning is performed on a 6 monthly basis when the gums remain stable.
